Kiss Me

His lips clutched my shoulder like a cliffhanger.
Just kiss me, I said.
He touched his lips to the crescent in my chest.
Just kiss me.
I felt his five o’clock shadow on my neck.
Just kiss me, I whispered.
His breath steamed the hairs on my earlobe.
Just
kiss—
he grazed his lips on my cheek.

The moon laughed at us
with her sweet milky light.
The night said,
just give it time.
The clock wasn’t willing to wait.
